Discover the benefits of Accoya: Accoya fact sheet
Accoya wood is a high-performance, sustainable wood that is modified using a process called acetylation. Acetylation involves altering the wood’s molecular structure by introducing acetyl groups. This process takes place in specialised reaction chambers and significantly enhances the wood’s durability, stability, and resistance to decay, making it one of the best wood products on the market for joinery projects.
Once the acetylation process is complete, the wood is washed, neutralised and dried, and then processed further depending on its intended use.
Accoya wood is usually made from sustainably sourced softwood, such as Radiata pine or Scots pine. The acetylation process provides the wood with several beneficial properties, including:
If you would like to learn more about the work we do with Accoya timber for homes throughout Devon and the South West, including Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Kingsbridge, please get in touch.
Peak House, situated in the coastal town of Sidmouth, Devon, is an Edwardian estate dating back to the 20th century.
The grounds of the estate, which used to be the servant quarters, was experiencing issues with its existing wooden doors, which had deteriorated over time and had begun allowing water ingress. To address this, the decision was made to opt for Accoya wood replacement doors.
As Accoya-approved manufacturers, the team here at Joinery Solutions Southwest undertook the production of Accoya bi-fold doors and a set of French doors for Peak Lodge. Both sets of doors were finished in a white coating and featured arched bars in the glazing, meticulously crafted to replicate the original bespoke joinery style.
